American Gear LLC
Reverse Engineering
If you don’t have prints on your gear components, no problem. American Gear specializes in Gear manufacturing for over 100 years, we have the capabilities and the best engineers in the industry to reverse engineer your gear components back to OEM or better.
Our skilled engineers can solve a number of common gear design problems. This practice can be used to determine the gear geometry of an old, worn out gear that needs replacing, or to duplicate a gear when the original drawings are not available. The process of reverse engineering includes disassembly of a gear assembly in order to analyze it. Using advanced measuring and inspection tools, our experienced engineering team uses this process to determine the exact gear geometry of your gear. From there, we can create a replica of the original, and handle full manufacturing of your gears.
Reverse engineering is essential for replicating and understanding various gears, including spur gears with their straightforward teeth for simple power transfer, and helical gears which offer smoother operation and reduced noise.
Gear grinding refines the teeth for better performance, while herringbone gears provide high load capacity and minimal backlash. Hypoid gears and spiral bevel gears are used for efficient torque transfer in tight spaces, while worm gears offer high reduction ratios in compact designs. Internal gears, spline gears, and rack gears are crucial for versatile mechanical systems, converting rotational motion to linear movement and enabling diverse applications.
